§ 13-51. Regulations at specific locations.

  • (a)

    Generally. The mayor and council from time to time may regulate, restrict or prohibit the stopping, standing or parking of vehicles on specified streets or parts of streets, or in specified areas.

    (b)

    Signs; etc. Signs or other appropriate markings or devices shall be installed giving notice of such regulations, restrictions and prohibitions, and it shall be unlawful to violate or fail to comply with the directions of any such sign, marking or device.

    (c)

    Specified places. No person shall stop, stand, park or place for storage a motor vehicle, motorcycle, powered cycle, boats and/or trailers, farm tractor, road tractor, semi-trailer, or other conveyances except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the law or the directions of a police officer or traffic controller, at any of the following places:

    (1)

    On a sidewalk, except as otherwise permitted by regulations of the mayor and council.

    (2)

    In front of or within three (3) feet of the curb return in a public or private driveway.

    (3)

    Within an intersection.

    (4)

    Within twenty (20) feet of a fire hydrant.

    (5)

    On a crosswalk.

    (6)

    Within fifteen (15) feet of a crosswalk at an intersection.

    (7)

    Within fifteen (15) feet upon the approach to any flashing beacon, stop sign or traffic-control signal located at the side of a roadway.

    (8)

    Within fifteen (15) feet of the driveway entrance to any fire station.

    (9)

    Alongside or opposite any street excavation or obstruction when stopping, standing, or parking would obstruct traffic.

    (10)

    On the roadway side of any vehicle stopped or parked at the edge or curb of a street.

    (11)

    At any place where official signs prohibit stopping.

    (12)

    Upon the traveled portion of any roadway except to yield to other traffic, or as directed by a signal or sign, or as directed by a police officer.

    (13)

    No person shall move a vehicle not lawfully under his control into any such prohibited area or away from a curb such distance as is unlawful.

    (14)

    Within five hundred (500) feet of a fire apparatus at the scene of alarm of a fire.

    (15)

    Parking under the U.S. Highway 90 bridge and under the State Route 182 bridge shall be permitted for the parking of automobiles and pick up trucks rated not more than three-quarter (¾) ton. All other vehicles, including commercial vehicles, boats and/or trailers are prohibited from parking [at such location].

    On the West side of Fourth Street between Canton Street and Lima Street.
