§ 13-54. Handicapped parking.

  • (a)

    Motor vehicle parking spaces for the exclusive use of persons whose vehicles are identified by license plates for the mobility impaired which contains the word "handicapped" embossed on the license plate shall be provided and reserved as follows:

    (1)

    At any and all appropriate parking spaces as designated by the chief of police of the Town of Berwick to be in compliance with the laws of the State of Louisiana and in accordance with any resolutions adopted by the town council of the Town of Berwick.

    (2)

    Each such "handicapped" reserved parking space shall be specifically and prominently identified by appropriate traffic sign and/or other designation as "handicapped" parking space.

    (b)

    No person shall stop, stand or park any motor vehicle in a parking space reserved and identified for the handicapped which vehicle is not identified by a license plate for the mobility impaired which contains the word "handicapped" embossed on the license plate.

    (c)

    Any person violating the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine not to exceed one hundred dollars ($100.00). In addition to the fine, the offender may also be required to pay the towing fee and any storage costs which are incurred in the moving of the motor vehicle from the designated "handicapped" reserved parking space.
