§ 13-64. Definitions.

  • For the purpose of the article, the following terms shall have the meanings respectively ascribed herein:

    Abandoned motor vehicle means a motor vehicle that is inoperable and is left unattended on public property for more than five (5) consecutive days, or a motor vehicle that has remained illegally on public property for more than five (5) consecutive days or a motor vehicle that has remained on private property without the consent of the owner or person in control of the property for more than five (5) consecutive days.

    Motor vehicle shall mean any vehicle which is intended to be self-propelled and designed to travel along the ground and shall include, but not be limited to, automobiles, buses, motorbikes, motorcycles, motor scooters, trucks, tractors, go-carts, golf carts, campers and trailers.

    Police department shall refer to the police department of the town.

    Unclaimed motor vehicle shall mean any motor vehicle as described in the definitions herein which is located on the streets or ways of the town and which has been in this condition for a period of more than five (5) consecutive days and whose owner is unknown or unidentifiable.

    Wrecked motor vehicle shall mean any motor vehicle that has been involved in an accident and that is located at or near the scene of the accident, and is rendered incapable of being driven from the scene.
