§ 17.5-7. Permit; procedure for obtaining.

  • No person or persons, firm, or corporation shall operate taxicabs or other motor vehicles for hire transporting passengers on the streets or public places of Berwick, Louisiana, without first have applied for and received, from the public necessity commission, a permit in the form of a certificate of public necessity and convenience. Application for said certificate shall be submitted on a form provided by the public necessity commission. A nonrefundable application fee of twenty-five dollars ($25.00) shall be assessed the applicant at the time of submission of application. Notice of said application shall be prepared by the public necessity commission, and shall be advertised once a week for three (3) weeks in the official journal of the Town of Berwick, Louisiana, showing the time, place and date of public hearing. Applicant shall pay cost of advertisement. At the public hearing held by the public necessity commission it shall determine the need for additional service and the quality of the service to be rendered if the permit is granted, as well as the number of taxicabs or other motor vehicles transporting passengers for hire to be operated.
