§ 18-37. Payment of bills for water service.

  • (a)

    Generally. Bills for water use or service shall be mailed by the fourth day of each month. The payment due date is on or before the 22nd day of each month. Payment becomes delinquent on the 23rd day of each month. When not timely paid a ten (10) per cent service charge shall be added to the past due billing.

    (b)

    Place of payment. All bills shall be paid at the office of the town clerk.

    (c)

    Late charge exemption; qualifications. A late charge exemption plan is established for those qualified and eligible customers. The following customers shall qualify for eligibility:

    (1)

    Those billing customers who are sixty-five (65) years of age or older, or

    (2)

    Any billing customer who is the recipient of permanent disability benefits or survivor's benefits through the United States Social Security Administration.

    Those customers who qualify shall be exempted from paying the service charge set forth in subsection (a) above, provided that the billing is paid within thirty (30) days of the billing date. In order to qualify under this late charge exemption plan a customer shall submit satisfactory proof to the town of his/her eligibility, which proof may include a valid drivers license or birth certificate proving the age eligibility, or the social security check or original letter from the U.S. Social Security Administration evidencing qualification for disability or survivor's benefits. Qualified individuals under this late charge exemption plan shall not be subject to disconnection as provided in section 18-38, provided that their billing for services is paid within thirty (30) days of the date of the billing.
